Teletrade®'s Gold Auction #1619
A fine selection of U.S. Gold Coinage
September 8, 2002  3pm - 10pm

On September 8, 2002, Teletrade® Certified Coin Auctions will be offering over 150 lots of United States gold coins for your bidding consideration. Included will be a varied selection of all denominations from $1 to $20. In addition to single coin lots, we present individual investor/dealer lots of generic NGC certified Mint State $5 and $10 gold pieces in five coin groups, and Saint-Gaudens $20 gold piece groupings of five and ten coins.

Beginning with gold dollars, there are seven lots of individual coins, starting with an 1849 Open Wreath reverse variety, NGC graded MS63 (lot 1000, est. 1,250-1,650) followed by several other PCGS or NGC graded examples grading MS63 or MS64, representing Type 1 and Type 3 varieties. Quarter eagles are highlighted by a rare, low mintage 1866, with attractive toning (lot 1009, est. $4,500-6,000) among 14 single coins within the denomination, representing both Liberty Head and Indian Head types.

Three-dollar gold pieces commence with a low mintage and historic 1857-S, ANACS graded EF40 (lot 1021, est. $1,500-2,000), a highly sought after condition, followed by an 1866 PCGS graded VF30 (lot 1023, est. $675-775), a trio of 1870s dates and a beautiful prooflike 1884, PCGS graded MS63 (lot 1026, est. $4,000-5,000).

Liberty Head half eagles comprise 32 lots and include two different five pieces groupings-each with all different dates or mints; NGC graded MS62. A dozen lots of Indian Head half eagle single coins include an impressive borderline Gem 1909, NGC graded MS64 (lot 1061, est. $2,400-2,900).

Liberty Head eagles comprise eleven lots, including a grouping of five different, grading NGC MS63 (lot 1077, est. $2,400-2,900). Fourteen Indian Head eagles are offered singly, highlighted by several Mint State and borderline Mint State examples.

Double eagles are well represented, in both single coins and investor/dealer lots. Within the Liberty Head series is a gorgeous borderline Mint State 1864-S, NGC graded AU58 (lot 1098, est. $3,700-4,200), foremost among two Type 1 reverse varieties offered, and a selection of later dates. Many are PCGS and NGC certified as MS64. Among the Saint-Gaudens double eagles are five investor/dealer groups, mixed dates, including both No Motto and Motto types, and a nice selection of single coins.

Please check our investor/dealer lot section which will feature two dozen new specially priced "wholesale" generic gold lots [read more], which will become a regular feature of our teletrade site! These should prove to be very appealing to both investors or dealers of gold coinage. With gold trending even further upward, Double Eagles are an excellent value right now, and cost only a small premium over bullion gold coins. And at nearly 1 oz of .900 fine gold, and almost 100 years gold or more, US Gold coins represent an outstanding buy right now.
