One of the highlights of this auction is its nearly complete run of Three Cent Nickels in proof condition, from 1865 through 1889. The vast majority are in PCGS holders ranging from PR65 to PR66, with estimates ranging from $375-475 for lot 1032, an 1882 PR62 to $6,500-7,500 for lot 1015, a 1865 PR66. Many coins are toned, while others are bright and unblemished. Either way, this is a splendid opportunity to fill out a type or registry set with these superb Gem plus quality Three Cent Nickel Proofs.

Two stunning proof Nickels, lots 1041 and 1042, an 1866 Rays PCGS PR66 and 1867 No Rays PGS PR65 (estimates $4,250-4,750 and $2,400-2,900) follow shortly afterwards, while lot 1054 is a lovely 1916 PCGS PR66 Buffalo Nickel (est. $3,000-4,000). Lot 1060 is an incredibly rare 1871 J-1074 NGC PR66 Dime Pattern struck in silver with reeded edge. As a rarity 7, this item warrants a generous bid (est. $6,200-7,200). Meanwhile, a 1923 PCGS MS66FH Standing Liberty Quarter, lot 1084, highlights the Quarter section (est. $4,000-4,500).

The Half Dollar selection offers multiple rarities, particularly lots 1100, 1101 and 1103, which are a 1795 O-102 NGC EF40, an 1897 Draped Bust NGC MS64, and 1818 NGC MS67 respectively. These range in value from $5,500-6,500 up to $17,500-22,500. Morgan Dollar highlights include lot 1211, a 1895O NGC MS61 (est. $11,500-12,500), and lot 1215, a 1903 NGC PR68 Morgan Proof, the finest known example (est. $18,000-22,000).

Lot 1230 is a stupendous 1888 NGC PR68 CAM Gold Dollar, among the finest Proof Type 3 gold dollars in existence. This mega-rarity is estimated to bring $29,000-34,000. Among Half Eagles, lot 1243 stands paramount, a 1800 NGC MS64, which is near Gem, among the finest known (est. $27,000-32,000). Double Eagles include lot 1263, an 1891 PCGS AU58 borderline UNC specimen (est. $16,500-19,500), and lot 1268 a 1908D No Motto NGC MS65 (est. $7,500-9,000). Finally in the error coins section is an incredible find, lot 1280, which is a 1919 Buffalo Nickel struck on a 1 Cent Copper planchet, graded NGC AU50 (est. $5,500-7,000). This coin will be hard to come by after this specimen is sold.

It must be emphasized that despite these highflying lots that numerous other coins will be offered at price points from as little as $100 and up, as the Teletrade® Premier Auctions focus on absolute quality of a given issue, not the absolute prices.

All 300+ lots from the September 29, 2002 Teletrade® Premier Plus Auction will be on view at table 742 at the Long Beach Coin Convention from September 26-28, 2002, where Teletrade® associates can assist you in lot viewing or through the entire registration and/or bidding process.
