Teletrade® to call August 25 Premier Auction

Among other highlights is a spectacularly
rare 1794 Silver Dollar and many other Classic Rarities!

On August 25, 2002, Teletrade® Auctions will auction over 300 lots of Premier Lots, of which many are classic and very rare type coins.

The very first lot, 1000, is a 1652 Pine Tree Shilling, large planchet, in PCGS AU50 (est. $6,800-7,800). Some early copper lots include 1006, a stunning 1947 NGC PR65BN Restrike Half Cent (est. $6,200-7,200), and a bold 1793 Chain AMERICA Cent in NGC 45BN (lot 1008, est. $21,500-24,500). Another classic coin are 1013 and 1014, which are an 1856 Flying Eagle Cent in PCGS PR40 and the 1857 Flying Eagle PCGS MS65, which are among the most desirable in the entire series (est. $7,000-8,000 and $2,700-3,200 respectively). And rounding out the section of copper is lot 1019, the key issue to the Indian Head Cent series, an 1877 PCGS PR65RD Cent (est. $10,000-13,000).

Other lovely type coins are lot 1037, an 1855 NGC PR65 Three Cent Silver Trime which is near perfection (est. $10,500-12,500); lot 1076 is among the finest known, a 1936 Type 1 NGC PR68 Nickel (est. $6,200-7,200). Among half dollars are many standouts. These include lot 1103, an 1807 Draped Bust NGC MS63 Half Dollar, Overton 102 (est. $8,500-10,500), and a superb Barber issue, lot 1111, a 1898 NGC PR68CAM Half Dollar, among the finest known (est. $14,500-19,500). Other classic hard issues to find include lot 1113, a near gem 1917S Obverse PCGS MS64 Half Dollar, and lot 1119, a 1941 PCGS PR68 Half Dollar (est. $5,000-6,000 and $4,200-5,200 respectively).

Commemorative Half Dollars include lot 1144, a 1922 Grant with star NGC MS66 Half Dollar, and an equally astounding lot 1150, a 1921 Missouri 2x4 PCGS MS66 (est. $8,200-9,000 and $9,400-10,000).

But certainly the highlight of the sale will be lot 1163, a 1794 PCGS VF20 Silver Dollar, a historic American rarity [for information and a history about this coin, click here]. This classic rarity is estimated upwards of $75,000-85,000, and is sure to engender strong interest from Early Bust Dollar or Type coin collectors.

With later silver dollars, lots 1202 and 1209 are standouts: An 1889CC NGC MS64, a near gem ultra-rarity for the grade, and an 1893S NGC AU50 specimen with much luster. Estimates range from $27,000-32,000 and $11,000-13,000 respectively. Lot 1212 is an 1902 NGC PR68 Silver Dollar from the Jack Lee Collection, and is among the very finest (est. $20,000-25,000), while lot 1225, a 1927D NGC MS66, is another provenanced real rarity in the grade from the famed Sotheby's hoard of the mid 1990's from a Denver Bank Vault (est. $11,000-13,000).

Some interesting Southern gold issues start out our section of gold. Lots 1236 and 1241 are an 1859D NGC MS60 Gold Dollar and 1850D NGC AU58 respectively, notoriously difficult issues to find from the Dahlonega Mint (est. from $3,400 up to $7,400-8,400). Amid Half Eagles is a lovely early issue, lot 1247, a 1795 Small Eagle PCGS AU55 Half Eagle, a rarity from the early days of our Nation, this item is estimated to bring in excess of $19,500. A spectacular gem lot 1297 is a 1907 High Relief Wire Edge in PCGS MS65, the highlight of our Double Eagle section. This lovely coin is fully Gem and is estimated $25,000-30,000).

Finally, among gold commemoratives are some very stunning items. These include lot 1239, a 1903 Jefferson NGC PR63CAM Gold Dollar (est. $7,600-8,600), a true rarity with about 100 struck. As well are offered separately are lots 1306 and 1307, 1915S $50 Octagonal Panama-Pacific PCGS MS63 and 1915S $50 Round Panama-Pacific PCGS MS64. Both are with blazing luster and full die polish. These coins may bring $27,000-32,000 and $43,000-48,000 respectively.

It must be emphasized that despite these highflying lots that numerous other coins will be offered at price points from as little as $100 and up, as the Teletrade® Premier Auctions focus on absolute quality of a given issue, not the absolute prices.

All 300 plus lots from the August 25, 2002 Teletrade® Premier Auction will be on view by private appointment in our Southern California offices.
